CROSSINGS Workshop: CARING FOR OUR OWN AT DEATH (2 Day Workshop - Jan. 29th and 30th)
Friday, January 29, 2010
WORKSHOP ON HOME-BASED FUNERAL CARE, INCLUDING GREEN/NATURAL BURIAL OPTION
led by Crossings founder, Elizabeth Knox
Crossings, a home funeral and green burial resource center, is dedicated to renewing simplicity and sanctity to death care, demonstrating that home funeral care is still legal and possible.
Death is inevitable and like birth is a passage to be honored. There is a movement nationwide to support people in coming to terms with death of a loved one and finding meaningful ways to honor the person and the community. In many ways, it is return to ways of an age-old tradition when death care was a family and community event.
Workshop enables attendees to be self-sufficient in home funeral care by:
• creating community
• discovering useful local resources
• demonstrating practicalities
• sharing simple rituals and experiences
• clarifying state laws
• exploring challenges and fears
• explaining final disposition choices, including green or natural burial
• discussing environmental, psychological and spiritual impact of various choices
